Transforming Lufthansa Cargo's airmail handling through digital innovation

Lufthansa-Cargo-Airmail---Dr

Lufthansa Cargo's "Go Digital" strategic initiative was established to digitally transform the documentary processes and operations to boost supply chain performance and enabling continuous innovation for our customers, and partners. A historic milestone was the achievement of a 100% share of electronic airway bills (eAWB) in August 2022.

Our longstanding partnership with IBS Software has allowed us to achieve several additional strategic milestones on our digital transformation journey, the latest being the roll-out of iCargo Mail Handling across almost 100 stations. With the solution now implemented, we have access to comprehensive and accurate data throughout the entire airmail handling process. The new barcode scanners accelerate handling processes, allowing our customer to track their airmail consignments in real-time during the shipment lifecycle.

This latest achievement gives Lufthansa Cargo a fully digital supply chain leveraging an efficient airmail export and import handling. Our Ground Handling Agents, in particular take advantage of iCargo's integrated standard IATA & UPU messaging capabilities, allowing seamless data exchange.

With the implementation of several regulations (e.g. Import Control System 2, electronic consignment security declaration) we were able to push the digitalization in the airmail industry by replacing paper with messaging to simplify processes and improve the data quality.

We are very much looking forward to reaping the rewards of our digital transformation strategy together with our customers and IBS - adding value and innovating across all segments of the airmail value chain.
